Pasadena · Legislative Policy Committee ·
How the council picks its vice mayor Item 6
Since Pasadena began electing its mayor directly in 1999, the council has generally made the longest-serving member who hasn't yet been vice mayor the next vice mayor. That's a practice, not a written policy. The committee discussed writing it down; because the charter calls for an election every year, members agreed a policy can describe the practice but can't decide the outcome in advance. The clerk will draft language with the city attorney's office.
