Next step toward a Department of Community Safety and citywide unarmed crisis response Item 72

Mental health and addictionViolence prevention

The Ad Hoc Committee on Unarmed Crisis Prevention, Intervention, and Community Services report directs the offices of Matthew Szabo (City Administrative Officer) and Sharon Tso (Chief Legislative Analyst) to review the city's community safety programs under three core functions: community-based crisis response and mental health; crime and violence prevention, including domestic and gender-based violence; and victim and survivor support. For each program they are to report who it serves, where, how it is staffed and deployed, its metrics and its budget. They are also to design a model for one citywide unarmed crisis response program that builds on the UMCR and CIRCLE pilots, and to inventory all related city services. The staff report says these steps have no fiscal impact.

  • Adopt the Ad Hoc Committee report (voted together with items 34 and 67). Result: passed, 14 ayes.
