Local hire update Item 1
The city's local hire consultant, a consultant to the economic development department, reported on the First Source local hiring program from January 2020 through August 2026. On the 10 construction projects it tracks, there were 5,127 worker placements, which the report says aren't unique workers, and about $64 million in payroll and benefits; Pasadena residents held 288 of the placements (5.6%) but 13% of the hours and about $6.7 million (10%) of the pay. City-funded projects must hire 15% of their workers from Pasadena, and private projects over $50,000 can join voluntarily for a construction tax rebate. It's the city's main tool for steering construction jobs to residents.
